Shlokas
गुरूर्ब्रह्मा गुरर्विष्णुः गुरर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥
गुरु is ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, and महेश्वर. गुरु is साक्षात् ब्रह्म itself. Salutations to that great teacher.
अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशलाकया । चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥
गुरु opens the eyes blinded by the darkness of ignorance with the torch of knowledge. Salutations to that गुरु.
अगजाननपद्मार्कं गजाननमहर्निशम् । अनेकदं तं भक्तानाम् एकदन्तमुपास्महे ॥
We worship the single-tusked, elephant-faced one who is like the sun for पार्वती’s lotus face, and who grants countless boons to devotees.
वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय कोटिसूर्यसमप्रभ । निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥
O Lord with the curved trunk and mighty form, radiant as a crore of suns — remove all obstacles from my endeavours, always.
वसुदेवसुतं देवं कंसचाणूरमर्दनम् । देवकीपरमानन्दं कृष्णं वन्दे जगद्गुरुम् ॥
I bow to कृष्ण, teacher of the world — son of वासुदेव, joy of देवकी, and slayer of कंस and चाणूर.
शुक्लाम्बरधरं विष्णुं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजम् । प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत् सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये ॥
Meditate on विष्णु — clad in white, moon-bright, four-armed, with a serene face — to remove all obstacles.
हरः पापानि हरतात् शिवो दत्तां सदा शिवम् । न जानामीति नो ब्रूयात् सर्वज्ञपदभाग् यतः ॥
May शिव remove all sins and bestow auspiciousness always. शिव cannot say “I do not know,” for he is omniscient.
आसन्नाय सुदूराय गुप्ताय प्रकटात्मने । सुलभायातिदुर्गाय नमश्चित्राय शम्भवे ॥
Salutations to the wondrous शम्भु — sometimes near, sometimes far; sometimes hidden, sometimes manifest; easily reached by some, nearly unreachable by others.
सरस्वति नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि । विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा ॥
O सरस्वती, boon-giver who takes any desired form — I begin my studies. May I always succeed.
नमस्ते शारदे देवि काश्मीरपुरवासिनि । त्वामहं प्रार्थये नित्यं विद्यां बुद्धिं च देहि मे ॥
O शारदा, dwelling in काश्मीर — I bow to you and pray daily. Grant me learning and wisdom.
नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते । शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥
Salutations to you, महामाया, worshipped even by the gods. O महालक्ष्मी, bearing conch, discus, and mace — salutations.
पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि । परमेशि जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥
O महालक्ष्मी, seated in पद्मासन, embodiment of the Supreme Being, supreme goddess and mother of the universe — salutations.
ध्येयः सदा सवितृमण्डलमध्यवर्ती नारायणः सरसिजासनसन्निविष्टः । केयूरवान् मकरकुण्डलवान् किरीटी हारी हिरण्मयवपुर्धृतशङ्खचक्रः ॥
Meditate always on नारायण at the centre of the sun’s orb — seated on a lotus, adorned with armlets, crocodile-shaped earrings, a crown, and a garland, golden in form, bearing conch and discus.
तं सूर्यं जगतां नाथं ज्ञानविज्ञानमोक्षदम् । महापापहरं देवं तं सूर्यं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
I bow to सूर्य, lord of the universe, bestower of spiritual and worldly knowledge and liberation, and remover of the gravest sins.
सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके । शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके देवि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥
Salutations to you, O नारायणी — auspicious in all auspicious moments, शिव’s consort, fulfiller of all wishes, refuge of all who seek you.
अन्नपूर्णे सदापूर्णे शङ्करप्राणवल्लभे । ज्ञानवैराग्यसिद्ध्यर्थं भिक्षां देहि च पार्वति ॥
O अन्नपूर्णा, ever-complete, beloved of शङ्कर — grant me knowledge and renunciation, O पार्वती.
रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे । रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥
Salutations to श्रीराम — sacred, moon-bright, supreme lord of the Raghu line, and husband of सीता.
आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् । लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥
Again and again I bow to श्रीराम — remover of hardship, bestower of all abundance, and beloved of all.
मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम् । वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥
I take refuge in मारुति, messenger of श्रीराम — swift as thought and wind, master of the senses, foremost among the wise, son of the wind god, and leader of the monkeys.
बुद्धिर्बलं यशो धैर्यं निर्भयत्वमरोगिता । अजाड्यं वाक्पटुत्वं च हनूमत्स्मरणाद् भवेत् ॥
Sharp intellect, strength, fame, courage, fearlessness, good health, alertness, and eloquence — all these come from remembering हनुमान्.
